The UK’s ‘Trucking’ magazine presents article about ‘Back Pain’
‘Trucking’ magazine is one of the leading publications for the UK and Irish Truck and Transport industries. In the June 2026 edition there is an article regarding ‘Back Pain’ issues among truck drivers. In spite of many truck having ‘apparently’ sophisticated air seats there are still high levels of chronic back pain amongst truck drivers.
Who inevitably spend a lot of time either driving or resting in their cabs. The article highlights the type of injuries and discomfort but also gives advice on how the driver can manage and ease the problem. One of key pieces of advice is to take the time to get to know the seat adjustments (many new seats are quite complicated) and take the time to ‘optimise’ the seat position every time. However of course although truck OEM’s spend a lot of time and engineering in the seats they fit in new trucks, not every seat they install is suitable for each individual driver or passenger.
We for example at UnitedSeats have many cases where drivers cannot get on with the original OEM seat no matter how good it looks visually.
- The seat trim for example is too slippy or not breathable!
- The seat cushion on the original seat doesn’t extend properly or is too firm!
- The shock absorber is too firm or too soft!
- The backrest is too curved, or the back foam is the wrong shape!
- The seat is too complicated and too difficult to adjust!
The list is endless, and to be honest humans are all different shapes and sizes. In a day in day out scenario however the seat has to be right otherwise health issues ensue. This scenario is more aggravated in older trucks, where the wear and tear of the highways causes damage to the seats and when these go without proper rectification it causes harm to the driver. This is where the UnitedSeats Voyager C60/C65 and C70/C75 Air seat models with a wide range of adjustments can make a difference to driver well being.

Top Tip
David Hale from UnitedSeats recommends the Voyager C75 Premium seat, he says ‘the option of heating on cold days can help relax back muscles and many of us now enjoy this feature as standard in our cars’. He goes on to say ‘The air cooling system also helps on hot summer days to avoid sweating which can lead to skin related issues such as eczema and rashes’ The C75 model has these features as standard.
Equally for trucks that regularly carry a co-driver or passenger the original OEM seats are often benches or less specified seats and UnitedSeats can provide solutions for these with the Voyager air seat range as well.
